Ford Burles earned his PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Calgary, where his dissertation disambiguated the role of the retrosplenial complex in human navigation, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rotman Research Institute.
His work spans spatial cognition and wayfinding, neuroimaging (MRI/fMRI), EEG/ERP analysis, neurofeedback systems, signal processing, and machine-learning model design, with a focus on turning hard neuroscience and ML problems into research infrastructure and deployable software. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and was a co-investigator on the Canadian Space Agency's Wayfinding project studying astronaut adaptation to spaceflight. He also architects Gettinglost.ca, a public cognitive-assessment platform.
